Peter Bruckner

Before coming to the Bar, Peter worked as a solicitor, joining Mallesons Stephen Jaques in 1995. At Mallesons, Peter’s principal areas of practice were banking & finance law and stamp duties. Before his move into the law, Peter worked in Treasury of the ANZ Bank, developing expertise in fixed interest, derivatives, foreign exchange and project finance. Peter also gained significant experience as an advocate in criminal law in the period immediately prior to being called to the Bar.
Peter’s principal areas of practice are revenue law (including administrative review, recovery proceedings and corporate crime) and commercial and equity law. His practice includes:
- Income tax, CGT, GST, FBT and stamp duty
- Administrative law
- White collar crime
- Commercial law
- Bankruptcy and insolvency
- Equity
- Wills and probate
- Building and construction
- Professional negligence
Peter is a Fellow of the Taxation Institute of Australia.
In addition to advisory work, Peter’s experience at the Bar includes:
- the defence by Thalanga Copper Mines Pty Limited of a $15m claim by Brandrill Limited regarding alleged conduct under a mine operation contract; and
- the defence by Sydney South West Area Health Service of a $100m claim by interests associated with Macquarie Health Corporation Limited regarding a proposed private hospital adjacent to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
