A leading practitioner in his field, Roger specialises in mediation, directed particularly to disputes involving taxpayers and State and Commonwealth revenue authorities. He also mediates in disputes related to superannuation, and complex family asset holding structures. Throughout his career Roger has had a particular interest in international taxation law. He took silk in 2006.
Roger’s significant experience prior to being called to the Bar in 1993 includes practising as a Tax Partner at Minter Ellison and at Freehills (now Herbert Smith Freehills). Roger also held key positions including director at Morgan Grenfell in Hong Kong and Principal Legal Officer at the Attorney General’s Department in Canberra.
Roger holds the degrees of Master of Taxation, a Master of Laws, a Bachelor of Laws (with Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts from domestic and international universities. He also attended Harvard Law School's International Tax Program for one year, as a Visiting Scholar.
In addition to teaching in the Law and Economics Faculties at the Australian National University on Taxation and Company Law, Roger has taught numerous subjects in the Masters Program at Sydney Law School (including the subjects “International Taxation” and “Tax Litigation”).
He is co-author of the Guidebook to Australian International Taxation, the Lawyers Tax Companion (CCH) and former editor of Foreign Investment Regulation in Australia (Butterworths/Legal Books)
