Holger’s practice is principally in revenue law (stamp duties, land tax, payroll tax, and income tax, CGT, GST etc) with a special interest in State taxes. The revenue law practice necessarily involves an understanding of and practice in administrative, commercial and conveyancing law, equity and trusts (including charity law). He has had extensive experience in advising and appearing for both revenue authorities and taxpayers. His practice has also included planning, valuation and compulsory acquisition compensation, and Crown lands law matters.
He is admitted to practice in New South Wales, Victoria, ACT, New Zealand and Samoa, and has appeared in the High Court of Fiji. He is on the High Court Roll.
Immediately prior to commencing practice at the Sydney Bar, he was Senior Solicitor (Investigations), Special Prosecutor's Office, Sydney, the Senior staff solicitor responsible for the directing and managing of investigationsinto "bottom of the harbour" tax schemes. His earlier experience included practice as a Crown Counsel (Crown Law Office, New Zealand), and a solicitor (Inland Revenue department, Head Office, Wellington).
Holger’s doctorate, a Ph D in tax law, was conferred by the University of Melbourne. He is a Co-editor and principal Updates writer of Hill Duties Legislation (published by Thomson Reuters) since 2006.
