Piotr decided to join the Bar after asking himself the question - what would he do if he did not have to work?
His practice involves providing advice and appearing in courts and tribunals. He specialises in tax, commercial and corporate matters. That said, rarely are cases or issues confined to one area of law. Because of his experience, he is able to assist with a range of matters.
What differentiates Piotr from many barristers, is the breadth of his experience, which includes working in the in-house tax team of a global multinational (BHP), in a big four accounting firm (PwC) and top tier law firms (Clayton Utz and MinterEllison). Most recently, he completed a detailed analysis of Australia’s tax treaties, on an “article by article” basis, as part of the IBFD Global Tax Treaty Commentaries, with Professor Miranda Stewart. This has given him deep insight into treaty policy and practice, both in Australia and more broadly. He regularly participates in tax policy consultation.
Piotr holds a Master of Laws from the University of Melbourne, and a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Queensland. He is a member of the Taxation Committee of the Law Council of Australia, a member of the Taxation Institute of Australia, a member of the International Fiscal Association and a Chartered Tax Adviser.
Over the years, he has been briefed by large firms, the Australian Government, Non-Governmental Organisations, multinational entities, medium and small firms, as well as individuals, and has an appreciation of their expectations and requirements.
Piotr has been told that he has an ability to approach issues from a different perspective, to provide greater insight and a better outcome.
