Thomas has more that 19 years' experience in commercial litigation and specialises in tax disputes. Thomas has appeared for, or instructed on behalf of, taxpayers and the Commissioner of Taxation in the Supreme Court of New South Wales, the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, the Federal Court and the High Court.
Thomas also advises as to commercial and administrative law issues arising out of an Australian Tax Office investigations.
Prior to coming to the bar, Thomas was a solicitor in the tax controversy teams at large law and accountancy firms. In additional to holding a Masters of Tax, he is a Chartered Tax Advisor of the Tax Institute and a member of the International Fiscal Association.
He has authored a number of articles concerning tax disputes and has been asked to present on taxation matters by the Law Society of New South Wales, the Tax Institute, the Institute of Chartered Accountants, the International Fiscal Association as well as professional services firms.
